Premise[]

In Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, America Chavez accidently transports herself and Doctor Strange to Earth-838 in order to escape from the Scarlet Witch, who seeks to obtain her multidimensional powers to reunite with her children. However, unknown to either Strange or Chavez, her powers had began to spiral out of control and inadvertently brought four other individuals across the Multiverse with them; Peter Parker, James "Logan" Howlett, Reed Richards and Eric Brooks. As each of them explore Earth-838 on their own, the four heroes come across that reality's Carol Danvers, who operates as Ms. Marvel, and meet together to figure out the truth behind their arrival and return to their home universes. However, their journey would eventually see them get entangled in the Scarlet Witch's multiversal crusade for Chavez and the five multiversal heroes realize that by teaming with Strange to stop Maximoff and saving the Multiverse, they would be one step closer to the truth.

Recap[]

When Sylvie Laufeydottir killed He Who Remains in the Citadel at the End of Time, the Sacred Timeline began to expanded and several timelines began to branch off it and off each other in infinite proportions, reactivating its connection to the Multiverse.[1] Because of Sylvie's actions, the reactivated connection to the Multiverse triggered the Spider-Man Multiversal Crisis, when Doctor Stephen Strange cast the Runes of Kof-Kol to make everyone in the universe forget about Peter Parker's identity as Spider-Man, only for the spell to inadvertently cross into infinite universes, transporting two Spider-Man variants and their villains to Earth-616.[2] In the five months following the Spider-Man Multiversal Crisis, Strange had been continuously suffering from nightmares, in which he received visions of the isolation of the Sacred Timeline, the rise of Kang the Conqueror and the start of a second Multiversal War.

One day, he received a vision of his alternate self getting killed while protecting a young woman named America Chavez and searching for Book of Vishanti, although Strange couldn't make much sense of it. While attending Christine Palmer's wedding, Strange encountered Chavez being hunted down by an inter-dimensional monster named Gargantos and defeated the monster with the help of Wong, the Sorcerer Supreme. Afterwards, Strange and Wong learn that Chavez is an inter-dimensional traveler who was being hunted down by the monsters for her powers and she showed them the corpse of Strange's variant, causing Strange to remember the vision he had received earlier and recognize the same witchcraft runes on the corpse as the demon. Strange then attempted to ask Wanda Maximoff for her help but soon realized that she was responsible for the attacks, having obtained the Darkhold following the Westview Incident and now seeking Chavez's powers in order to reunite with her children.

The following day, the Scarlet Witch attacked Kamar-Taj, murdering many Masters of the Mystic Arts during her crusade for Chavez. Strange attempted to entrap her within the Mirror Dimension, but proved to be ineffective as she was able to escape through the reflections and reached Chavez's location. As the Scarlet Witch attempted to absorb her powers, Chavez accidently opened a portal, in which Strange jumped at and caused the two of them to flee across the Multiverse, eventually ending up in an alternate reality. Having escaped from the Scarlet Witch, Strange and Chavez began their journey to search for Strange's variant in this reality.[3]

Main Story[]

The story starts on Mount Wundagore,[4] where Doctor Strange, dreamwalking through his deceased variant and with the help of Wong and five different multiversal heroes, attempts to fight off the Scarlet Witch and rescues America Chavez from her captivity, but Maximoff is able to break free and defeat the multiversal heroes before trying to kill Strange. The story then flashes back four hours ago, during Maximoff's attack on Kamar-Taj,[3] where Maximoff escapes from the Mirror Dimension using the reflections and tries to absorb Chavez's powers, only for Chavez to accidently open a portal out of fear and causing her and Strange traverse through the Multiverse to escape from the Scarlet Witch, eventually landing on Earth-838.

However, unknown to either Strange and Chavez, the portal had also inadvertently brought Spider-Man, Wolverine, Mr. Fantastic and Blade from different universes to Earth-838 with them as a result of Chavez's powers spiraling out of control. Just as Strange and Chavez begin searching for Strange's Earth-838 variant,[3] the four inter-dimensional heroes explore Earth-838 on their own; Spider-Man gets mistaken for someone impersonating as that reality's Spider-Man, who had been killed while fighting the Green Goblin three months prior, and ends up helping Ms. Marvel defeat the Griffin, while Logan and Blade engage in a bar fight, before being stopped by Mr. Fantastic.

Having studied the Multiverse and Incursions, Richards is on a journey to locate the other three visitors in the hopes of finding a way to bring them back to their home universes and avoid the destruction of their realities. Richards, Logan and Blade then meet up with Spider-Man after defeating Griffin alongside Ms. Marvel.
